How to make a silicon mould with sealer

Hello my dear friends! In today’s video I’d like to show you how to make a silicon mould.


First, we need any silicon sealer, hand cream, potato starch, toys or badges you would like to duplicate. You may even pour lead into moulds, if your silicon sealer is for temperature higher than 500-600 C. I took wax and polymer clay. First, we have to squeeze a silicon sealer out of the tube.


Add starch little by little, and mix it intensively till you get a dough looking mass.


You need to get such a consistence, divide it into small pieces and cover the pendants with the hand cream to avoid sticking to silicon. Next, press a toy or a pendant into silicon, mend the edges and leave it to get firm for 24 hours.


Silicon moulds have already firmed, let’s look at the result.


Firstly, let’s make polymer clay copies of these two pendants. Take a small polymer clay ball and press it into a silicon mould. Then, remove it carefully. As you see, the image is very clear, I like it very much. You just have to put it into the stove to firm the clay. Let’s do the same thing with the second pendant. Remove it slightly. Here is the second pendant. We move to the difficult figure of Smurf. Actually, I’m not aware of the result, as I think that if we pour wax, which is too soft, the toy might break. However, if we pour an epoxide resin there, I think it would be very accurate. So let’s experiment with wax. Unfortunately, the try is failed, as the wax is too soft, and when we open the mould it breaks.


But I’ve got one more idea to pour some hot-melt glue into the mould. Let’s try. Let’s check what we get with hot-melt glue in a hand made silicon mould.


The only disadvantage of the hot-melt glue is that it’s too dense and gets firm very fast, so it doesn’t leak into all the holes of the silicon mould. So we get very poor detailing.


As you may see, we have got a Smurf without arms.
